Here’s a sample bulk-mail letter that you can copy and paste, filling in the right
stuff in the four places where the brackets are:

Hi, fellow [your school’s name] student,

This letter is being sent to all students at our school. We’re writing to tell you
about a new e-mail group that we have started. It’s for the benefit of gay,
lesbian, bi, not-sure, and curious students.

If you fit into one of those groups and you want to talk about it and get to know
others like you at our school, please write to
[your group’s e-mail address]. If you
want to remain anonymous, use a new e-mail address that no one else knows.
We promise to preserve your anonymity, unless you decide otherwise. We don’t
even need to know your name, until and unless you want us to. You’ve probably
been chatting on the Internet with far-distant friends who share your orientation
or curiosity. Let’s do that here at home.

If you don’t fit into any of the groups listed above, you might have some friends
who do. We would like to hear from you, too, if you want to support those friends.

Our generation is more tolerant and less bigoted than the older ones are. We
want to make that positive progress more effective and visible in our school.

This is the only unsolicited letter we will write to you, so if this one made you
angry, don’t worry, there’ll be no more. We will, however, answer all who write to
us at
[your group’s e-mail address]. We look forward to hearing from you,
especially if you’re gay, bi, lesbian, not sure, or curious.

Thanks for your time,

[Use whatever signature you think is appropriate. Probably your group name is
best, since you’ll have the opportunity to reveal more to those who answer your
letter.
